Dräger Design Centre
Dräger, based in Lübeck, Germany, is an internationally leading company for products and solutions in medical and safety technology.
The Dräger Design Centre (DDC) combines various uses for medical technology. It is a presentation area, a showroom, a training centre and - what is most special - it offers space for testing clinical room concepts.

The individual areas of the DDC, such as patient rooms, rooms for family-centred care and intensive care rooms, are arranged around the central operating theatre and open onto the surrounding corridor. They display the medical equipment and show possible layouts and arrangements to simulate and optimise individual workflows or those of a complete intensive care unit.
The open corridor connects the medical areas, while the individual rooms are designed to appear as self-contained units. The visual demarcation of the circulation zone is achieved by the continuous ceiling joint and the lighting visible on the floor.
The lighting design focuses on different aspects depending on the requirements. The main theme is the 'healing environment', in which the design of the spaces, the acoustics and the lighting play a key role.
Particular challenges were the combination of showroom and real working situation, the complexity of the different requirements in terms of lighting criteria, atmospheric conditions and lighting design.
